Readers invited to nominate places for urban makeovers.

PlanCharlotte.org is asking readers to nominate spots in the Charlotte region that need a design makeover. (See our first installment in this series here.)

Urban designers Keihly Moore and Alex Borisenko have launched a website, www.completeblocks.com, where they’re proposing a series of urban design retrofits, many of them nominated by readers.

Among their designs so far are new visions for Rama Road, Monroe Road and the Seventh Street bridge over Interstate 277. (Note: These re-imaginings are not official city plans, simply ideas for consideration.)

Before (below): Price’s Chicken Coop is a popular lunch spot in Charlotte. There’s no seating for patrons, so many folks eat on the embankment of the light rail tracks. At the same time, the Camden Road is unnecessarily wide for a two-lane street. This provides excellent opportunity to add an outdoor dining parklet.

After (below): Adding a parklet at Price’s Chicken Coop would provides much-needed seating for patrons and help make the Camden Road an inviting place for pedestrians and cyclists.
