Welcome to the Charlotte Business Confidence Index. The index is designed to gauge quarterly economic expectations from business executives in Mecklenburg County. Business executives’ economic expectations for the upcoming quarter will produce measures for sales, profits, hiring plans, capital expenditures and local and national economic outlook, and a composite index to gauge a real-time sense of the future economic climate in Mecklenburg County.

The Charlotte Business Confidence Index is sponsored by Advantage Carolina, the City of Charlotte, Charlotte Works and BusinessFirst Charlotte, a collaborative program of the City of Charlotte and the Charlotte Chamber.  The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute is conducting the research and analysis.  That research includes a quarterly online survey of Mecklenburg County businesses, who must first register as participants to receive quarterly notices asking them to complete the survey.  The first quarterly survey was in early March 2011.
