Update of the 2011 Urban Institute report to the Future of the Library Task Force

The Future of the Library Task Force was formed in 2010 to make recommendations to the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners and the Board of Trustees of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library concerning long-term funding strategies for the library system.  The final report was presented on March 21, 2011.  The recommendations were based on findings of the seventeen-member Task Force group, chaired by UNC Charlotte Chancellor Emeritus, Dr. James Woodward.

As a part of this work, the Task Force examined 13 peer communities suggested by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Mecklenburg County, and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.  The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute was asked to collect and present information to the Task Force comparing governmental revenue and library funding in these 13 peer communities for the four-year period between FY 2007/08 through FY 2010/11.  In January 2012, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library retained the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute to revisit that study. This report adds information on the peer libraries through FY 2011/12.
